The piece is made up of three solid 9ct yellow gold bangles (not hollow) that are joined together with a movable 9ct band. Attached to the band is a bale that holds a glorious 9ct gold coin mount with a twisted rope style outer edge and beautiful gold work, the mount holds one 22ct gold South African Rand. The obverse features a portrait of Johan Anthoniszoon Van Riebeeck known as Jan Van Riebeeck, the reverse shows at its center the Springbok the national animal symbol of South Africa.
